The school follows the British Curriculum [Pearson Edexcel] and implements relevant innovations in teaching techniques, assessment and methodology, as appropriate. Any pupil should be able to transfer directly to any independent or state school in Britain without undue difficulty, should the need arise. The following is a guide to how your child may progress through the school.
The Mombasa Academy is a private day school for boys and girls between the ages of 3 and 18. The school comprises three departments: Junior School, Preparatory School, and Senior School, all housed on the same campus, sharing facilities and, to a considerable extent, staff expertise. This helps to unite the many nationalities represented in the school in a family atmosphere of disciplined friendliness while giving scope for the energies and the talents of each age group.
School begins at 8:00 a.m and the morning session finishes at 12:00 noon. A short break of 20 minutes is given from 10:20 am to 10:40 am.The Lunch break is from 12:00 noon till 12:55 (Friday 12:00 to 1:25pm)Afternoon school resumes at 12:55 p.m (Friday 1:25 pm) and closes at 3:00 p.m. (Friday 3:30 pm)Year 10 to Year 13 pupils may have classes from 3:00 to 3:40 p.m (Friday 4:10 pm) depending upon the subject options.Most pupils take part in extra-curricular activities which take place during lunch hour or after school. All activities close by 4:00 p.m. except Bandari Swimming Club
Lateness to school will be accepted with a valid reason only 3 times in a term. Repeated instances will result in disciplinary action taken even to the extent of sending the student back home.Absence from school must be accounted for in writing by a letter to the Form Tutor and by an entry in the appropriate section in the School Diary.
Details of fees are given in the " Current Information" sheet enclosed with the Prospectus. The fee for each term is payable to the school office no later than 3 weeks after commencement of the term. If a pupil enrolls after the term has started, fees may be charged on a pro-rata basis. In the event of withdrawal from the school, a full term's notice must be given or a full term's fees paid in lieu of such notice. The Headmaster may, at his discretion, require the removal of a boy or girl without a term's notice if he considers that circumstances warrant such action. In this event no claim shall arise for the remission of any portion of the fee payable for that term.
The SCHOOL RULES apply to all pupils of the school in order that they may all work and play in a happy, safe and clean environment.
Uniform is worn throughout the school and consists of clothing that is practical, lightweight and appropriate to the tropical climate. Pupils are also expected to buy T-shirts in House colours with the House logo.
